The other morning, I woke up and did my usual—made a coffee, scrolled through my phone. Maybe I need a new ritual because, unfortunately, what I saw sent me straight into a nervous system meltdown.
A short video. A headline. A moment that triggered something deep inside me.
It was a report from Under the Desk News about Andrew Tate and his brother—men accused of rape and sex trafficking—hopping on a plane to Florida after being held in Romania. And my whole body reacted.
I have not lived this particular trauma, but I felt it in my bones. Because as women, we all carry this.
That whole day, I felt raw. Tender. A little teary. It felt—no, feels—like the world wants us numb… under someone’s thumb. Everything feels backwards, upside down, and threatening. (Deep breath…)
All I wanted to do then was step into a creative space—to make something with my hands, to gather with other women. Not to reinforce the fear, but to find power. To reclaim something that felt like it was slipping away. To reconnect with creative wisdom.
Creativity as a Way Back to Ourselves
In times like these, creativity isn’t just a nice thing to do—it’s a life raft. It’s how we process, how we express, how we make sense of a world that often makes no sense at all.
And more than ever, I believe we need spaces where we can come together, not just to make art, but to make meaning.
That’s why I created The Artful Crone—a creative community for soulful women in their third act. Each month brings a symbolic, soulful project designed to help you reconnect with your creativity and your sense of agency. This isn’t about being “good at art.” It’s about having a space to play, to explore, and to let your hands carry your wisdom.
It’s a space where art becomes medicine. Where small, soulful projects help you practice joy, choice, and sovereignty. Where we gather not just to make things, but to make meaning.
This is the Space We Need
The world feels heavy right now. Strange. Shifting. But instead of retreating, women are gathering—finding each other, seeking spaces to create, to connect, to reclaim what matters.
That’s what The Artful Crone is: a place to make, to share, to create something meaningful together.
And if the world wants us numb? We’ll answer back with art.
Let’s make something that matters.
Thank you, Feisty Crone, for doing your thing.
I have lived in a wonder-full Sacred Circle of Women since 1989 and can personally vouch for the life raft effect of gathering and creating together.
Perhaps it’s the laughter that creates the magic, but there have been tears to share too and many meditations and prayers. Anyway, I’m retired now and moved away, but we women remain there for each other on a near daily basis.
I have created a different but similar circle here in my new neighborhood. Some of us gather weekly to create art of our choosing. Others gather monthly to share a meal, play games and sustain our community. As I’ve often said, Girlfriends save lives!!” Needed now more than ever!
Completely agree! This last week (and the weeks before actually) I have been feeling off. Today I spent the day painting, colouring, reading and listening to podcasts about local folklore - I so needed this mental break just to play 💚
