What If It’s Not About Technique?
What if your next creative class wasn’t about getting it right—but about finding your way back to yourself?
Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it means to take a creative class. Not just to learn a technique or produce something polished, but to have an experience that reconnects you to yourself.
Because let’s be honest: the pressure to learn something or make it good can quietly shut a lot of us down before we even begin.
Over the years, I’ve realized that most of what I offer—whether in my home studio or through the screen—isn’t really about technique. It’s about creating space.
Soulful space.
Sacred space.
Permission-giving space.
Space to slow down.
To tune in.
To make something that matters to you.
There’s always guidance. But not always a long list of skills to learn and instructions to follow. Most often, we begin with a table full of materials and a single question:
What wants to take shape through you today?
There’s deep value in this kind of making. It’s less about doing it “right” and more about rebuilding creative trust. You begin to feel that spark again—not because someone gave you a formula, but because you’re remembering how to follow your own lead.
What do you envision creating?
How might you go about it?
What idea keeps tugging at your sleeve?
And then, little by little, you follow your instincts.
This is where creativity becomes reclamation. You start to trust that you do know what you want. You start listening inward. You follow your own set of instructions.
Your creativity begins to lead.
And for those of us who’ve spent much of our lives adapting, managing, or performing, that’s no small shift. It’s one of the real gifts of this third act of life—the turn inward. The reclaiming of voice, rhythm, and desire.
This is also why I design my workshops the way I do.
They aren’t centered on mastering technique. Not because technique doesn’t matter—but because it’s not the whole story.
For me, finding my voice as a maker and a guide has meant focusing on the experience. On the becoming. On the trust it takes to follow your creativity, at the table and beyond.
Yes, you’ll pick up some skills along the way. I’ll show you the “how” when it matters.
But my goal isn’t to turn you into an artist.
My goal is to help you remember yourself as someone who gets to explore.
Someone who gets to choose. Someone who gets to make something that reflects the quiet magic already stirring inside.
That’s why I created the Tree Spirits Workshop.
It’s about magic and making and allowing your creativity to lead the way.
I haven’t shared much about it here yet, but it’s one of my favorite offerings. It’s a perfect reflection of this reflective creative process.
In the Tree Spirits Workshop, we make quirky, soulful little talismans from sticks, clay, and twine. They’re simple. Playful. And surprisingly powerful. They carry stories. They become companions. They sit on your altar or desk and make you smile, while gently reminding you of something deep and true.
It’s one of those rare classes that offers a soulful blend of guidance and freedom. I’ll show you just enough of the “how” to get you started, and then you’ll find your way from there. Most of all, it gives you space to listen to the quiet insights your playful creativity wants to share.
I’d love for you to check it out. 👉 Join the Tree Spirits Workshop
Tree Spirits is a self-paced online class, so you can begin whenever you’re ready. But if you’re thinking about it, here’s a good reason to jump in now:
I’ve added a special bonus class this weekend to help you get started.
Let me back up...
There’s one small bit of technique I do teach in this workshop: how to make your Tree Spirit’s face.
For me, it’s the most magical moment—that instant when your creation looks back at you and says, I’m here.
But for a lot of people, it’s also the most intimidating part. Even though these little faces are meant to be quirky, imperfect, and don’t require any sculpting experience, that inner critic can get loud fast.
So here’s your invitation:
Come make something with me.
Even the part that feels a little scary.
Create a Tree Spirit—face and all. Let it be weird. Let it be wonderful. Let it hold a story you didn’t even know you were ready to tell.
And if the face-making is the part that’s holding you back? I’ve got you.
This Saturday, June 7, I’m offering a live bonus Zoom session just for Tree Spirit participants. We’ll create together. I’ll walk you through it step by step. You’ll be able to ask questions, get support, and make something magical with a little creative company.
If you sign up today, you’ll be right on time to join us.

This is so beautiful. I totally agree about technique vs making space for you in creativity. Thank you for articulating it so well.
