I am a sender of cards. They are, in my opinion, far more personal than a text or email. Plus there is no digital “record” floating out there - I have literally sent cards to friends in response to a digital message letting them know that the card can be burned so I can speak freely in it.
I have a good friend who lives far far away. We met casually. A year later when I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and “came to” I found she had sent me a weekly card (international mail!) for several weeks. We exchange cards as well as digital messages and our friendship has deepened.
I do not make the cards I send but find them in art galleries, museums and coffee shops. Not Hallmark. ❤️
Martha, thank you for sharing this. It really does show the power of exchanging cards that let you authentically express yourself. And how amazing for your friend to send you all those cards when you were hurt. I hope you are doing better now... you've inspired me to make sure I keep my promise to myself and keep sending little bits of love.
i love this. and, as the receiver of one of your cards, i can truly say what a gift it is to receive them. yours stayed on my dining room table all winter long.
